Frequently asked questions.
Do you accept medical aid?
Little Miracles Paediatric Practice is a private, cash-based practice and does not claim directly from medical aids. Payment is made at the time of your consultation, after which you will receive a detailed statement that can be submitted to your medical aid for reimbursement. The amount refunded will depend on your individual medical aid plan and benefits.
Where is the practice located?
We are conveniently located on the first floor of Johannesburg Surgical Hospital, making us easily accessible for consultations and, when required, continuity of care during hospital admissions.
What ages do you see?
We care for children from birth up to 13 years of age, providing specialist paediatric care through every stage of childhood.
Do I need a referral to see a paediatrician?
No referral is required. Parents are welcome to book an appointment directly with Dr Chiara.
What should I bring to my child’s appointment?
Please bring your child’s Road to Health Booklet if applicable, previous medical records or referral letters, a list of current medications, and your medical aid details if you intend to submit your consultation for reimbursement.
What happens if my child needs to be admitted to hospital?
If your child requires hospital admission, Dr Chiara will continue to oversee their care. While we await the opening of the paediatric ward at Johannesburg Surgical Hospital, children requiring admission will be admitted to Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital, where Dr Chiara has admitting privileges. This ensures continuity of care throughout your child’s hospital stay.
Can I book appointments for more than one child?
Absolutely. Siblings are welcome to be seen during the same visit where appointment availability allows. Please let us know when booking so that sufficient consultation time can be allocated. As each child requires an individual assessment and medical record, a separate consultation fee applies for each child seen.
What if my child becomes unwell after hours?
If your child has a medical emergency, please attend your nearest emergency department immediately. For urgent concerns that cannot wait until the next working day, the hospital emergency department will ensure your child receives prompt medical attention.
